Expedition has become one of the most attractive low-investment farming strategies in Path of Exile 2, especially for players with powerful endgame characters. The mechanic can produce impressive amounts of Divine Orbs while requiring relatively little upfront investment compared with many other farming methods. With an optimized setup, players can potentially generate 50–60 or more Divines per hour, making it a highly effective way to build POE2 Currency while also collecting Chaos, Perfect Exalted Orbs, gems, and valuable Expedition rewards.
Why Expedition Farming Is So Effective
The main reason Expedition stands out is its excellent profit-to-investment ratio. A typical setup primarily requires a map and a Logbook, meaning players do not need to spend a huge amount of resources before every run.
One experienced player reported farming Expedition for roughly eight to nine hours and increasing their Divine total from 325 to 562. Even when ignoring other valuable drops, the raw Divine income worked out to more than 25 Divines per hour. Once Chaos, Perfect Exalts, Perfect Chaos, gems, and other Expedition rewards were included, the estimated profit reached approximately 50–60 Divines per hour.
These numbers represent high-end performance rather than guaranteed results. Expedition contains considerable RNG, and inexperienced players will usually earn less while learning the mechanics.
Understanding the Latest Expedition Changes
The removal of the previous Olroth's Saga setup changed the maximum profit potential of Expedition. Instead of appearing in a guaranteed configuration, Olroth's Saga can now randomly spawn on Grand Expedition maps.
This means players should not expect the extreme profit levels associated with the previous version of the strategy. Nevertheless, Expedition remains one of the strongest farming methods because its basic investment remains very low.
The low price of Logbooks also means players can afford to run them frequently rather than spending excessive resources trying to maximize every individual encounter.
Recommended Tablet Setup
For Grand Expeditions, three Eradicated Tablets are recommended. Expedition Tablets currently do not work for Grand Expeditions, so Eradicated Tablets are the primary option.
The ideal modifiers include increased Monster Effect and an increased number of Rare Monsters. Item Rarity can also be useful, but it is generally considered less valuable than the other two options.
Players can purchase one-mod tablets and use Divine Orbs to attempt to turn them into two-mod tablets. However, three strong tablets can become expensive, so they should mainly be reserved for exceptional five-, six-, or seven-mod maps.
For weaker characters, cheaper two-mod tablets are often a better choice. Avoiding extremely difficult Monster Effect combinations can make the content much easier while still maintaining strong profits.
Choosing Waystones and Atlas Passives
Monster Effect should be one of the highest priorities when preparing Waystones. Monster Rarity and Item Rarity are also useful secondary modifiers.
A common strategy is to use an Omen of Chaotic Quantity and then corrupt the maps. Pack Size is generally not prioritized for this farming method, although it may be worth keeping on particularly valuable eight-mod maps.
For the Atlas, Monster Effect is the standard option for strong builds. Players who struggle with difficulty can switch toward Rarity instead. Increasing the chance of additional Rare Monsters is another possible option, although its effectiveness may require additional testing.
Desert is generally preferred for maximizing Expedition rewards, while Forest can provide a more manageable experience for weaker characters.
Selecting the Right Master
Jato is considered one of the strongest Master choices for experienced Expedition farmers. Recommended passives include Unexpected Missions, Eastern Knowledge, Partial Translations, and Keen Appraisal.
Doryani is another useful option, particularly for weaker builds. Evolution Pressure, Improved Calibrations, Volatile Connections, and Stitch the Flesh can provide additional Expedition opportunities and improve consistency.
Maintaining map stability is important because losing a Grand Expedition can seriously reduce overall profit.
How to Use Runic Remnants
Runic Remnants are at the heart of the Expedition strategy. The basic objective is to collect powerful purple modifiers early and then propagate them into larger seven-, eight-, or nine-remnant groups later in the encounter.
Players should not worry too much about getting seven-plus remnants immediately. Early remnants with only three to six modifiers can still be valuable if they contain strong effects that can propagate forward.
Highlighted modifiers can carry over to subsequent monster groups. By combining several strong effects, later encounters can contain numerous modifiers simultaneously. This significantly increases monster quantity, rarity, and the number of enemy waves, creating the potential for enormous loot explosions.
Prioritize Opulent and Other Strong Remnants
Opulent is arguably the most important remnant to find because it improves the effectiveness of other modifiers. If it appears in an accessible location, it is usually worth adjusting the route to reach it.
Other highly desirable remnants include Power, Death, Bond, and Oath. Time and Rebirth are also useful options.
At the beginning of an Expedition, low-value remnants with five or fewer modifiers can generally be rerolled if they do not contain a strong purple effect. Liquid Verisium can be used for rerolling and is naturally sustainable while farming, making it a valuable part of the strategy.
RNG, Difficulty, and Build Requirements
Expedition is extremely profitable, but RNG remains an important factor. Some runs can produce 20 or more raw Divines, while others may provide only three or four. Over a long period, an average of around eight to ten Divines per Expedition can still result in excellent returns.
The biggest barrier is character strength. Expedition monsters become extremely dangerous when multiple powerful modifiers are stacked together, so many builds require strong equipment before they can farm the content efficiently.
Some builds, such as Flameblast and Oil Grenade Gemling, can perform well without relying on extremely expensive gear. Other builds may benefit significantly from a Headhunter because Expedition creates many Rare Monsters whose bonuses can dramatically increase character power.
Overall, Expedition rewards players who understand its mechanics rather than simply placing explosives randomly. By prioritizing strong purple modifiers early, finding Opulent when possible, and building toward seven-plus remnants at the end, players can dramatically improve their results. If your character is not yet ready to handle this demanding content, you can also buy Path of Exile 2 Orbs to help fund the gear upgrades needed for high-end Expedition farming.
